Destruction Of Data Through Hard Drive Shredding

By Maria Snider

If you ever wanted to get rid of data after it was no longer needed you probably just deleted it from your computer. Perhaps you shredded it up if it was paper. Paper shredding is relatively safe but, deleting data from your computer could leave the base file behind. This could give others access to data that maybe you wouldn't want them to see. Best course of action is hard drive shredding.

Hard drive shredding companies do exist. There is one called Data Killers of which is located in Capitol Heights, Maryland. Destruction of digital data is their specialty. Your hard drive will be put through a specific process to insure that your data is properly destroyed. Once Data Killers is done with your hard drive, any data on it will no longer be able to be recovered. They will start by putting the data in a machine to shred it. This machine will have anywhere from a ten millimeter screen to a forty millimeter screen. The difference in screen size is to allow them to shred the data into whatever size particles fits their client best.

After the data has been shredded, the particles are then gathered and compacted. Once compacted, it will recycled. They keep records of everything that happens with the data while in their possession. You will be able to get a copy of the report on every step taken with your data upon request.

They have tight security at their facility. Not just anyone is permitted and with good reason. A lot of clients would prefer that not many people are present around their data. In certain situations, they can even lock down their building.

To make their clients more comfortable with the process of data destruction, they frequently allow clients to oversee the destruction of their own data. This will insure that you know exactly what is happening while your data is undergoing destruction processes.

Once the process is done, you will be given a certificate of destruction. It should be good for all compliance that it may be needed for. From in home to military grade data, hard drive shredding is the right choice if you want it gone for good.
