Enriching Your Art and Culture during your Trip to the US

By Gavin Caleb

If you're an art and culture aficionado, the United States is one of the countries that you should visit. Despite the claims of other nationals that the US is not rich in culture or talented in the art department, you should look at this country's history to find out that the opposite is true. If you're going here to enrich yourself and broaden your horizon, here are some excellent travel tips to follow during your vacation in this country.

Visit Galleries and Museums

One of the first things that you should do while you're here is to visit the wide array of interesting and exquisite galleries and museums. Your first stop should be the Museum of Modern Art, which is located in New York City. This one houses the masterpieces of Vincent van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol and Salvador Dali, among others. This museum also features excellent collections of sculptures, films, and photography. Another worthy place to include in your itinerary is the The Art Institute of Chicago (AIC), which is famous for the lion bronze statues at the building's entrance and the countless of world renowned artworks like "Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte" by Georges-Pierre Seurat, "Nighthawks" by Edward Hopper, and "American Gothic" by Grant Wood. Other must-not miss museums and galleries in the US include the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, Metropolitan Museum of Art, National Gallery of Art, Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Philadelphia Art Museum, and the J. Paul Getty Museum.

Sign up for Art Classes

If you're on a tourist visa, you probably don't need any special student visa if you wish to participate in short recreational courses like art classes. But just to be sure, inquire with the US embassy first regarding this matter. If you're given a go signal, a good option would be the Waldron Arts Center. Its educational program features more than 350 classes on visual, performing, and literary arts every year. Check out the art center's official website www.artlives.org for more information.

Attend Art Talks, Seminars, and Poetry Readings

All around the country, you'll find plenty of venues that host art talks, art seminars, and poetry readings. You can even check online for a local listing in the particular area where you're staying to get to know more about these events. Participating in such events will teach you more about the art and culture not only of the country in general but also in the specific state where you're visiting. You'll also get to meet local people who will share with you their penchant and passion for the arts.

All these things can help you have an incredible experience during your vacation. Just see to it that while you're enjoying, you also keep in mind safety and health at all times. Before you travel, get visitor's insurance policy to ensure that you are well protected against medical expenses that may arise due to accidents and illnesses. Moreover, follow safety guidelines while traveling around to have a safe and wonderful time.
