Whenever an individual violates the laws imposed by the state or the country, a police report is automatically generated. The police records Virginia issues to its people are generated by different enforcing agencies of the state such as the police department, sheriff's office or the traffic department. The police records are considered as open files that the residents can access anytime they need it.

It is also a requirement that the personal information of the one who requested for the file be indicated on the application form. It will be used for documentation reasons only.

Going to the State Police Department should be the first place that one goes to in order to frequent for a copy of the police report. One can also seek help from the office of the county court house since they may be able to provide the needed information. Aside from this, the search can be done through the Internet since Virginia has used the Internet to deliver information to the people.
