Tips For Surviving Nursing School

By Hedrick Lepsch

You may have heard the adage that it's not about what you know but who you know, at least a hundred times or more. No matter how many times you have heard it making meaningful contacts is still as powerful now as it was a century ago. Here are some reasons why Networking matters.

Mark began working for his money when he was 12 years old, selling garbage bags door to door so he could buy a pair of expensive sports shoes. In high school, he took on various jobs (everything from bartending to disco instructing - odd, but cool) and left high school early to start college ahead of the pack. He studied in both Pittsburg and later Indiana, graduating with a major in Business Administration. As you can see, his interests were far-ranging and dynamic - a trait that persisted over the years.

Studying everything three hours before your exam may get you passing grades, but little of what you study will be converted into long-term memory. This can be remedied by studying for an hour every day and allowing the material to transfer into your long-term memory. If put into practice, this strategy can help you ace your exams!

Needless to say, Mark Cuban gets around. It would seem that he isn't afraid of anything and that he will try anything that appeals to him. Such a personality naturally leads to another skill: getting into trouble. Mark has been charged with various things multiple times, many of which he was dismissed of, but many of which he was not. It just comes with the territory (and personality).

Take notes on everything. Writing down information is a helpful way of getting information to stick in your mind. Do not just write word for word what your instructors say. Write things in your own words in a way that you understand. Although it can be difficult to write legibly when the information is being presented very quickly, do your best to get your notes down in a readable and organized fashion. This will make it easier to re-read when you are studying for your exams.

When it comes to networking you better have your ducks in a row because it can reach your family life, your career, your academic endeavors, and your overall influence on society.
