Ask your friends and family for honest, positive feedback on your character. Earnestly requesting feedback is much different from simply fishing for compliments. Explain that you need help discovering things about yourself that make you a good friend, or what you could work on to become a more reliable and supportive friend.

If you are working on personal development, you should read books to try to learn from others mistakes. Reading books can help your personal development process because you will get to see some mistakes that others have made, and you will know how to avoid making the same mistake. Do the things you know to be right. This can be hard to do, because it's easy to justify yourself. For example, you know you should apologize but you don't feel like it--and the truth is, your personal development is going nowhere if you don't actually do the things you know you should. Doing what you know to be right will make you feel better about yourself in the long run.

A great way to develop yourself is to try experimenting as much as you can. Don't be one of those people who watches things happen; make things happen! Experimenting with different ideas allows you to come up with better ones! Once you have come up with these better ideas, you can apply them to achieve a higher quality in whatever you are doing.

Anxiety and dread often result from an individual's inability (or refusal) to accept that not everything in life is certain; it simply is impossible to know the full details of something, including whether or not it will even occur. Eliminate this anxiety by coming to terms with the very real nature of uncertainty. Focusing all of your mental resources on a worrisome potential consequence will not determine whether or not the event will even occur.

Use positive visualization as part of your every day life. Picture yourself achieving the goals you want. Picture your life as being better than it is today. Doing this regularly sets your mind on a course for positive results. Positive visualization is scientifically proven to work for most individuals.

Everyone has heard "live this day as if it were your last." This is a very important notion to consider, since every day actually could be our last. Knowing this, and if we did know this, what would you do differently? Take this into consideration as you face each day.

Get more done in your life by setting personal goals for yourself to achieve. Try writing them down in a plan and write how you plan to achieve them. There is no requirement on how many or how large or small the goals need to be; they should just pertain to what you want to achieve.

Find the areas in your life that you lack confidence the most. If you take the time to plan what areas you are lacking confidence in, you will find that it is easier to gain the confidence in those areas, rather than trying to gain overall confidence in all things in your life.

Take some time to give thanks for what you have each and every day. If you take the time to recognize the things that you do have, it will not seem so bad that you do not have the things that you think that you need. This will really go a long way in making your life a happy one.

To cope with loneliness, be sure to go out each day and interact with someone. Stop shopping, banking and doing business with large, impersonal chain stores. Instead, go to smaller, local shops where you will encounter the same people on a regular basis. Learn their names and inquire about them. Interested people are interesting and make good friends!

Reduce the amount of stress in your life by eating right. Avoid the usual junk food, which can actually lead to stress by making you feel guilty. Eat a balanced, healthy diet every day and it will actually fight stress. You will look better, and more importantly, you will feel better.

Pick up a new hobby. Sometimes things can get a little boring. This can leave one feeling depressed or anxious with the direction their life has taken. Instead of letting this get you down, consider picking up a new hobby instead. A new pastime can add some excitement to an otherwise dreary routine.

You must be able to concentrate and focus if you plan on being successful in this life. No one can make it in this world by just talking and offering opinions all the time. You must be able to listen, and you must be able to take time to learn about new things in a concentrated manner.

Learn to value what is best in your life. When you value something, you naturally want to do whatever you can to achieve it or preserve it. What you value influences the choices that you make in life. So if you value the best in your life, the activities that you choose will work toward achieving the best in your life.

When you've made a mistake, think of what you might tell your child or your best friend if they had done the same thing. Many times people can be tougher on themselves than anyone else when it isn't necessary. Be as gentle with yourself as you are with others when they make mistakes, and you'll feel better about yourself. As you can see, personal development is all about taking short steps towards greater changes. You can turn small steps into long-lasting, effective change in your life by simply being mindful. By following these simple steps, you will be well on your way down a path of self betterment!
