Books That Can Be Considered As The Best Fantasy Books Of All Time

By Juliette Cruz

Fantasy stories, or wonderful stories of magic and lore have been sort of a niche market since it began in the late 1930s. However, those who have come to enjoy and cherish this market do become familiar with the more popular writers, who in fact have best selling books and stories that resound, or have the ability to resound through time. Here in this short list can be considered some of the best fantasy books of all time.

J. R. R. Tolkien started the whole ball rolling when he wrote The Hobbit. In this book, the writer brought forth his imagination that have basically defined what is the structure and element of the fantasy genre to this day. Without this book, we would have no idea about elves, orcs, goblins, trolls and many other creatures that have been copied and pasted into many other fantasy stories we see today.

The Hobbit was followed up by Tolkien with the writing of The Two Towers and later on followed by the last book the Return of the King. All three comprise a trilogy named the Lord of the Rings. This trilogy has affected many of us as seen in the commercialized versions in games, movies, franchises and more. It has led to a cult following of people speaking Orcish and Elvish in many cosplay events and followings.

The Belgariad and the Mallorean are also two noteworthy series written by the late David Eddings. He, like Tolkien also used the method of having more than one novel making up the story, although each book can stand on its own.

The Dungeons and Dragons game craze was very much influenced by the printing of the Belgariad, which started with the Pawn of Prophecy. With its heavy reliance on maps for the story and also the appearance of intertwined multiple characters and character classes, it became a favorite reference for would be game designers and also dungeon masters in the game.

The Narnia series of C. S. Lewis in the 1930s should not be left out of the discussion either. This huge compilation of linear stories comprising seven books has a following across every age level. It starts with the iconic the Lion, the Witch and Wardrobe and ends with the last book, aptly titled, The Last Battle.

The unforgettable characters coming out of myth and legend, as well as everyday animals that talk, lend to the appeal of the Narnia series. This has caught on very well with young readers and stayed with them throughout their adult lives. Everyone at some point in their lives have seen these books in their bedroom as bought by their parents, that is if your parents really love to read.

The above list is by no way exhaustive, and many writings out there on the market can qualify as one of the best fantasy books of all time. However, the ones written about here have that timeless quality that everyone can appreciate, especially written by great writers who somehow have affected the lives of everyone today.
