Steps To Making A Captain America Halloween Costume

By Patrik Moore

As Captain America has arrived in cinemas this year, the expectation is for him to be present at the end of October as fans don the look of their favourite American patriot. With this in mind, it is highly likely that any Captain America Halloween costume should be in ample supply.

As with many costumes, these might appear cheap to some of the avid fans and may not reflect the high standards the heroes tailor their costumes to. Often a higher quality version becomes available through specialist stores, though can carry heft price tags. Opting to develop your own may be a worthwhile endeavour.

The costumes in the comics and the movie are typically very similar. In the comics, though, Cap did not wield a firearm and was a hand to hand expert. Going out armed is not suggested, as police may not appreciate your adherence to the film's protagonist as much as your friends will whilst wandering the streets.

Cap is famous for his circular shield, which is approximately 2.5 feet across, though he was also seen with a heater shield in a few issues of the comics. Regardless of which you choose to use, it may be easier finding something light like plastic, as opposed to vibranium-iron alloys.

Decorated in red, blue and white with stars and stripes, the image is a patriotic one, topped off by the freedom wings at the side of the head representing the liberty eagle. The mask is blue, and has eye holes and a gap for the nose and mouth.

The torso in the comics was made of something akin to scale, but cloth should be a viable alternative. Light blue in colour, a five point star, in white, is across the center of the chest. Around the abdomen a circle of red and white vertical lines gives a girdle appearance to the suit.

The torso's blue stops at the arms as it approaches the elbow and is changed for a white, which seems to extend all the way to the hands. Red gloves cover the white, though, and stretches towards the elbow, making it difficult to determine. The trousers are blue, and boots are red, in a folded over design which may be difficult to acquire in stores.

The shield is has three rings of red, white, red, a central blue and a white star. There is little else to the Captain America Halloween costume unless you have someone willing to carry round an American flag for you to stand in front of. For those who are not possessors of superhuman serum, a muscle suit to wear underneath might also be a plus
