An effective display stand

By Richard Smith

Creating an attractive display stand effectively promotes your goods, persuades clients to make a purchase and is a significant factor in improving trade.

Enhance your product by choosing an appropriate stand to display your items to their full potential. If they are inappropriately displayed on a stand not fit for the purpose this will detract from the item and the image will be unprofessional.

The display stand can be a useful advertising medium by printing the stand itself and/or placing a header card at the top of the stand with your company name, slogan and contact details. Make sure you select the colours and styling that represent your brand. Incorporate more information regarding the product on the header board, not least of all, the price - customers are reticent to ask the price of an item, by giving them this information clearly they are more likely to purchase.

The size of the stand will dictate the amount and variety of stock on offer. A large slat wall display stand can accommodate a number of themed products which encourage the customer to browse through from one section to the next - for example, dog leads and collars to dog toys to dog treats. A smaller counter stand would look too busy and overstocked if used in this way and simply lead to confusion. The customer won't be attracted to the stand and will simply walk away from your product - far better to concentrate on one product and place the stand in a prominent position or near the till where last minute purchases take place as people wait in queues.

Think about who is buying your goods and make sure your display stand is placed in areas they regularly frequent to ensure a greater exposure to your promotion. Take a critical look at where things are situated on the display stand. Lighter, smaller articles should be placed high up to create visual stability. We have a subliminal reaction to things that are not quite right and tend to avoid them. Service the stand regularly so that it does not appear empty and remains visually appealing. There are a wide range of display stand options available including wire, acrylic and cardboard.

Illumination is often over looked so don't place your display stand in a dull area. Shoppers avoid congestion so keep the area clear of clutter so they can view comfortably.
