Use Slurry For Concrete Raising

By Chloe Gib

Humankind has formulated and built structures with various types of materials throughout the years, however few of the materials can provide the same strength and durability as concrete. Highly trained workers can now perform a large variety of projects using this substance, including concrete raising or concrete slab repair.

These days is has become accepted that hardened material such as this was used during the building of Rome's Pantheon. The mixture worked very well for them and that is why they built a vast viaduct system with it. The system is still in existence today.

Modern usage gained wide acceptance starting with the Industrial Revolution. This is when many canals and harbors were built for shipping. Chemicals were developed to make the substance hard and quickly in cold weather. Before this, large castles and stone fortresses were fortified using mixtures of lime and ground stone.

Nowadays most homes are constructed on huge slabs of some type. This method of construction allows a house to be developed on a solid surface near to the ground. For increased stability, a footer is dug throughout the perimeter and under the load bearing walls. Iron rods and wire mesh is added next for more strength.

Over the decades, however, various houses on slabs become uneven. This is mostly due ground settling underneath. Moreover, concrete sidewalk repair had become necessary due to the ground under them dropping in places too. For that reason, an entire range of slurry materials were developed to fix these types of problems.

The slurry mixture is then pumped under the slab using specialized machines and hoses. This action quickly raises the monolith back into its proper position thereby stopping the damage. Then, highly trained crews pinpoint the cause of the settling to ensure the problem is corrected. Sometimes they will have to do this in several locations around the building until they are confident the settling is stopped.

Other methods are used to correct these types of problems too. For instance, adding various blocks under the damaged area is easy when using a cabling system. The blocks are lowered into place through a hole using of set of cables to keep them securely in place. While this method is effective in it is not as good as using the slurry mix because in time the blocks can sink. Therefore, the best way to do concrete raising is to find a crew trained with slurry.
