Undeniable Presence of Chinese

By Roseann Young

A Sense

Although our environment is overflowing with information, choosing critical, relevant information can prove a challenge. One quickly finds that sorting through it all has become an essential life skill. Yet, even with the sorting, unless we can find and incorporate it into our lives, it is essentially of no value to us.

Knowing

For example, we come across statistics every day. Around the world, more than one billion people speak Chinese. As a world power, China has become a powerful economic force with whom the world will continue to do business. Hence, parents who examine the future of the global economy are training their children to speak this language fluently. Still, data is just data unless we determine to act upon it.

How Does That Affect Me?

Perhaps, today, you feel there is no need to pursue any sort of training in this language. Yet, consider what the world may look like in a mere five years. For those who wish to succeed, understanding Mandarin to some degree will become an essential skill. Even if you have a translator working for you, there is no replacement for knowing the language yourself and the undertones that accompany this culture.

Belief Makes All the Difference

For most, conquering the fear that this language is insurmountable is key. Understanding that Chinese can be learned easily is not commonly promoted. Unfortunately, many have experienced native Chinese teachers who have overwhelmed their students. Yet, there is a better solution. It is possible to speak Chinese easily, but it begins first with the belief that it is possible.

While so many English speakers have gone before us to clearly demonstrate that this feat is possible, we must believe that we ourselves have the capacity for learning this beautiful language. If a voice inside exists that doubts your ability, dismiss it now. There is no mistaking that learning Chinese is possible and can even be achieved quite easily.

Decision

The essential question is whether or not you will decide to take action on learning this language. Allowing this moment to pass, you might find within several months, colleagues who speak Chinese and who have the edge with coming projects the business is launching. Will you understand why others are chosen for the project? When discussions take between colleagues or customers in this language, will you understand what is being said?

Undoubtedly, the acquisition of the Chines language is not for everyone at this time. But soon, it will be the skill that separates those who stagnate and those who move ahead. Mandarin Chinese is not the perfect solution to every problem, but it will be a defining trait separating those who position themselves well and those who do not.
