If there's one event that will have all gamers united, it would have to be E3. Considered to be the godfather of video game fairs, it's where just about everyone is going to show up in order to make their presences felt. More so, it will be the time that they can announce new developments and upcoming projects to a large audience so that just about everyone in the industry can become familiar with them. That being said, can online marketing play a part on the matter?
Amongst the many companies that will be involved in the event, I think that the two heavy-hitters will be Sony and Microsoft. It's no secret that there is going to be attention placed on their respective consoles and they both have to hit it out of the park. My concerns rest mostly with Microsoft, though, since it seems like many potential fans have been turned away. Between DRM that isn't user-friendly and the requirement of a constant connection, there are potential issues to be had.
I think that Sony and the PlayStation 4 haven't gained my attention because of the lack of details. We all know that the console is on the horizon but who's to say whether or not it will be successful? We haven't heard much in the way of DRM that will do more to hinder gaming experiences than help them. I will be the first one to cast aside the choice if such news comes into fruition, though, so don't think that I am favoring one name over another for no good reason.
I can only hope that online marketing is put in place for Microsoft because it is in dire need of a change. It's not hard to see why, especially when you consider that the details about the console have not been terribly great. Microsoft seems to be doing much more to appeal to publishers but, in the process, has alienated the gaming audience that will ultimately purchase their products. However, these choices have made certain that few buys will be made, as firms such as fishbat can observe.
However, I would advise everyone to keep their sights on E3 because I think that the developments associated with it are worth keeping up with. They are the ones which will dictate the future of the gaming industry and all companies will have their way. Online marketing authorities can also make the claim that E3 is the biggest platform to showcase a message. In order to reach as many eyes and ears as possible, this is the best environment to execute such an action.
