By Connor Sullivan

With several homeowners deciding to downsize or live a more simple life in this difficult economy, one problem occurs , where do they put all of their stuff? When people downsize, they typically have more items than space in their new home but do not necessarily want to get rid of all of it . This article will give suggestions on ways to make the best storage sense from a smaller space like in a bathroom using bath storage cabinets and a bathroom wall cabinet instead of a pedestal sink with no storage . Also adding a shelf storage cabinet in the garage to hold all of the infrequently used items is another option.

With so many home improvement kind of shops and places that are specifically for storing items like the Container store there are many ways to make the most of your limited space to store your items . First, maybe people don't consider the bathroom that can have storage remedies but it is a wonderful spot to hang some cabinetry to store all of your linens and bath supplies. Always have a cabinet type of base for your sink with drawers and cabinetry underneath as a pedestal sink has no room to store things. Another great idea for a little bathroom is to purchase a clear plastic shoe organizer and put it on the back of the door. This can hold all of your personal items that you need every day if there is not room to install some cabinetry. It is easy to find, out of the way and very inexpensive .

The next room that can have some good storage options is your bedroom. If your beds is low to the ground to store anything below it, buy some risers to give the bed a lift and to give quite a bit of of great storage area underneath it. There are several plastic storage units made specifically to be placed below the bed for extra bedding and pillows, or out of season wardrobe options . Another great option is to buy a rolling floor shoe rack that rolls below the bed. This frees up a lot of space in your closet and is quite convenient. At the foot of the bed, you can have a hope chest to store things or storage cubes that are hollow to allow space to put things in too is a great idea .

The last room is the kitchen where many people seem to run out of space if it is small. In older homes and cabinets, the shelving used was made for plates that were smaller\a bit smaller than the average plate is now . think about purchasing smaller plates to fit well into the space and allow room for other items also . Also, multi tiered shelving for spices and canned goods and multi level tiers gives you double the amount of room in a cabinet which is very helpful .

Be creative with your storage solutions and don't forget to use the vertical spaces. Being well organized is also key to living a more simple life too .
