Various Oil Field Equipment Needed To Support A Work Crew

By Ladonna Chambers

The search for new sources of energy has taken companies all around the earth. Sometimes, a company is fortunate enough to find a pool of underground fossil fuels near population centers that can provide a lot of the infrastructure needed once the company begins operation. However, there are other times when the location for drilling is many miles away from even the smallest of towns and a company might have to reproduce many of the amenities and services that they need in a far flung location. This situation calls for oil field equipment beyond what might be needed to pull the fossil fuels out of the ground.

The primary objective is to have things on hand to build and operate the wells that can tower over a landscape. These structures are what many people think off when they reflect on an oil rig operation. A large drill bores down through mud, rock and sediment as the tip nears the material buried underneath the surface. A person might not think of the other equipment that is needed in the field.

The fluid will have to be transported from the fields to production facilities that will transform the fluid into other products. There are basically three ways to move the material. One can use a truck, train, or piping system to move the product from one place to another. There are situations where a company may have to employ a mixture of these methods to get their supply to a production facility.

Getting the workers to a remote location is often handled by an energy producing company digging into the ground. They could transport these workers using trucks and buses. There have been some remote locations that have necessitated the use of helicopters to get the personnel where they need to go.

A crew going to remote locations usually stay for an extended period of time. They will be living and working in one location and they might need to have places to eat, rest, and play. Oftentimes, a company will hire a kitchen staff to prepare meals for the crew that is fully equipped with commercial grade appliances.

A sanitary system might have to be installed on the grounds. Very few places in the world allow people to place their human waste onto the ground or into streams or rivers. There should be sewer treatment apparatus available to handle the waste and prevent the work force from polluting the land.

A communication should be installed as soon as possible. Many events can occur on a work site and the employees will need a way to be in contact with the outside world as best as possible. This type of apparatus will be crucial if any kind of emergency rises where the crew would need help.

Setting up drilling operations in remote areas can be a daunting task. There are many pieces of oil field equipment that will be needed to operate. The apparatus ranges from tools and machinery to operate the wells to creating meals and providing showers for the personnel.
